Herb Sturz Awards

Herbert J. Sturz has been hailed as “the best social engineer in America.” His model for creating programs with a “double social utility” is the inspiration for The Herb Sturz Award for Excellence in Photography. By presenting these awards through a select group of schools and museums, we recognize individual achievement, while simultaneously supporting community arts education. Each institution will award a $2,500 scholarship to one student in their program to pursue post-secondary education in fine art. This year, the participating institutions are:

Appalshop (Whitesburg, KY)
George Mason University (Fairfax, VA)
Jack Yates High School (Houston, TX)
Light Factory (Charlotte, NC)
Perpich Center for Arts Education (Minneapolis, MN)
Santa Barbara Museum of Fine Art (Santa Barbata, CA)
Youth In Focus (Seattle, WA)
